Tikkapinta Oy - Regular development of a family business for growth

In 2016, the Jyväskylä- based company Tikkapinta Oy, which specializes in industrial painting, found its way to Hannu Tolvanen, a consultant working in the ranks of Finnish Business Development. The first project was worked on for a year and has been returned to several times since.

In terms of projects, the goals were already clear at hand: the company wanted to grow, develop and at the same time double its operating profit.

The implementation of the growth targets was started very concretely from the premises. Hannu helped with the capital lease and the point was already changed.

Shortly afterwards, it was time to renovate the production facilities, which is, of course, a demanding project both in terms of time and money. Preparations for the investment were made by applying for financiers. The financing materials were honed together and the consultant was on site to support the company in the financing negotiations themselves.

After the new production facilities, the next project was reached, when Tikkapinta started to implement a partial generational change. Hannu was involved in the preparation of the required papers and the valuation process. As a natural continuation, assistance with the financial arrangements required for the purchase was also included.

The actual difficulties were hardly encountered on the part of the projects, but the nature of larger projects always requires a certain kind of precision and they take a lot of time. However, taking the time to sum up the details is worthwhile, as mistakes can be costly.

Like all successful companies, Tikkapinta is looking for continuous small growth in its operations. In this case, it means that Hannu has been involved in developing the company's sales and marketing for a couple of years. The measures are very concrete, such as increasing the customer base and minimizing the risks posed by existing low-volume customers.

Naturally, running the activities themselves play a major role in the daily life of the family business, and the projects were implemented with this in mind - efficiently, time-wisely, and as uncomplicated as possible. Things were discussed throughout and individual work was utilized whenever possible. This ensured that entrepreneurs ’time was not sacrificed to unnecessary meetings and workshops when there was no real need for them.

The iron-strong professionalism of the entrepreneurs played a key role in the implementation of the projects and Hannu's role as a consultant was to support in matters that were not their strongest competence or for which they did not have enough time to set aside.
